GIVERS

What do they give? Energy.

If you have yet to hear of the endearingly poppy, multi-instrumental band Givers, you may want to open a new tab on your browser.  This band from Lafayette, Louisiana brings liveliness to the ears as well as the stage. Their lyrics are touching yet danceable, a combination that is often hard to come by. This band is nothing short of quirky and plain old adorable!

Guitarist and vocalist Taylor Guarisco is a treat to watch on stage. He jumps, he dances, and sometimes it seems he may leap right off the stage and tackle the crowd.  He shares his great stage presence with Tiffany Lanson (who told me to call her “Tiff.”) Tiff’s voice seems far beyond her years. She has that ‘I’ve been smoking all my life and screaming all night long’ gruff sort of voice that makes your ears perk up so that you don’t miss a sound.

Afro-beats and multiple drum kits played by both Tiff and Kirby Campbell bring the whole band together. Without such heavy percussion, I fear they may be too cutesy to stand. Add in keyboardist, flute player, and vocalist Will Henderson and you get a combination that your indie heart will pine for.

Before releasing their full-length album this summer, The Givers toured with The Dirty Projectors and released a self-titled EP. They are on tour now and if you have the chance to catch them in concert, you will see just how ecstatic they are to perform. They are grateful musicians and were kind enough to talk to me…a no-name blogger.

Stay tuned for video from the Bowery Ballroom concert.

Keep your ears open,
